私は、江国さんの作品では、どちらかというと小説よりもエッセイが好きです。エッセイなのに、まるで一つ一つが物語のようなところとか。

小説に出てくる登場人物たちは、揃いもそろって''「愛すべき変な人たち」''です(笑)

江国さんの作品には、季節の変わり目や、自分の周りの状況が変わったときに、読みたいと思える作品がたくさんあります。

夏になったからあれを読もう、とか、恋をしたらあれを読まなきゃ、とか。

きっと私は、その本の中にいるであろう「あるべき自分（またはこうありたい自分）」を見つけたいと思っているのでしょうね。

いつか読んだときは良くわからなかった（でもそのときはわかっているつもりだったりする）けれど、改めて読み返してみると、こういうことを言っていたのか、とわかるときがありますよね。
